Visa Information
Republic of South African Visa Information
Participants should apply directly for a Visa at their South African Embassy. The visa will allow you to travel to a South African port of entry where an immigration official will then determine if you are allowed to enter South Africa and for how long you can stay for that particular visit.
The requirements for the Republic of South Africa visitor’s visas differ from country to country. Please use the following link for details: http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/applying-for-sa-visas.
A fee is charged for issuing the visa. Ensure to check the cost with the issuing office in your country of residence as this is updated annually.
VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS
Visas are not issued at South African ports of entry. Airline officials are obliged to insist on visas before allowing passengers to board. If you arrive without a visa, immigration officials are obliged to put you onto a flight back to your home country.
Foreigners with long term status (work permits/permit residence) in the neighbouring countries who transit the Republic to return to their employment or residence are not subject to the transit visa, provided they are in possession of proof of their status.

Customs and Goods on Entry
Please also note that there are certain goods that cannot be brought into South Africa and other goods will need duties to be paid.
Conferences
- If these goods are accompanying you, you need to follow the same process as normal travellers.
- If the goods are not coming with you but are being sent into the country at a different time (unaccompanied baggage), you have to declare them on a DA 306 form. You need to complete the form before you come into the country and then take it to your nearest Customs office when you arrive in South Africa. This is a simplified clearance procedure for goods with no commercial value i.e. for goods that will not be sold in the country.
