Ms Grace Timanyechi Munthali

Ms Munthali has worked at the Department of Agricultural Research Services (DARS) specifically at Chitedze Research Station for almost a decade, and during which time she has made major contribution to the organization’s research. An economist by training, Ms Munthali began her career at Chitedze Research Station in the early 2000’s working as a seed analyst in an internationally accredited laboratory. In 2008, Ms Munthali started serving the station as an agricultural economist. At the station, this diligent lady was involved in the station’s budget preparation, evaluation of new technologies generated by scientists at the institute, analysis of programs in relation to resource allocation. In 2011, Ms Munthali joined the University of Pretoria at the Department of Agricultural Economics where she served as an assistant researcher under the supervision of Late Dr Liebenburg and Prof Sheyl Hendriks. Whilst at the university Ms Munthali worked on data rescuing and food security. Her major contributions at this job was rescuing old data using macros and review of different food policies in Africa as well as South African food security assessment. In 2015, Ms Munthali returned to Chitedze Research Station where she continued with her work as an agricultural economist. Currently, Tima is working on Monitoring and evaluation, evaluation of new technologies, resource allocation, agricultural innovation systems and policy. Ms Munthali has spent the past year leading and managing interdisciplinary research teams involving both biophysical and social sciences. Ms Munthali has extensive experience in participatory research and impact assessment of research and extension services. Ms Munthali has an MSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Pretoria and has contributed to publishing book chapters and conference proceeding.
