Malawi and neighboring countries. With 38 years of development experience in
Africa, Dr Bunderson has worked in many diverse areas including: 1) community
based extension and adaptive research to promote sustainable agriculture
focusing on climate smart agriculture, diversification and low-cost
irrigation; 2) natural resource management with emphasis on forestry, natural
regeneration and agroforestry; and 3) improved conservation and biodiversity
of protected areas with communities through interventions that generate
economic, social and environmental benefits from their participation. In
Sudan, Dr Bunderson served as senior range/livestock ecologist from 1980-1985
on the Western Sudan Agricultural Research Project. In Kenya where he was
raised, he conducted research on the competing and synergistic relationships
between wildlife, agriculture and pastoral livestock. Overall, his efforts
have contributed to increased productivity of crop and livestock systems;
enhanced agricultural support services and policies; and improved
conservation and biodiversity with reduced environmental degradation.
