Dr Pascal Rushemuka

Dr. Pascal Rushemuka is a Senior Researcher Fellow in Soil Science and Sustainable Agriculture Development at the Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB). His research ranges from understanding different soil types (scientific and farmers’ soil nomenclature), their properties, their suitability, their spatial distribution and their interaction with the socio-economic world to develop site-specific and socio-economic context-informed technologies for sustainable soil management and high crop productivity to reduce rural poverty and malnutrition. Currently, he is coordinating two projects in Rwanda. The first, Lime Project, is about boosting crop productivity and alleviate poverty and malnutrition in the Acidic soils of Rwanda. The second, Sustainable Intensification of Maize-Legume in Eastern and Southern Africa (SIMLESA) is about creating sustainable productive environment. The core business of this project is Conservation Agriculture Sustainable Intensification (CASI) based on maize-bean rotation. Both projects use mother-baby demonstration approach to experiment technologies and Agriculture Innovation Platforms (AIPS) to scale out technologies. Dr. Rushemuka is the focal person of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) for Rwanda.
